1. General information

Clinical Nursing is a core subject that consists of four subjects: Clinical Nursing I, II, III and IV that are developed successively in 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of the Degree in Nursing, with a total of 27 ECTS.

Clinical Nursing I, deals with the basic medical-surgical knowledge and care that put the student in a position to address the contents of the Clinical Nursing II, III and IV subjects. Clinical Nursing II, III and IV, comprise the knowledge of pathophysiological disorders, preventive and curative care to the adult subject, in good health and at any stage of the disease, with an approach focused on the individual from a holistic conception.

The subject of Clinical Nursing IV includes the contents corresponding to the following apparatuses and systems: Urinary System, Endocrine System, Metabolism, Haematology, Nervous System and Infectious Diseases

These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. In such a way that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement: Goal 3: Health and wellness.

2. Learning results

1. Work in a holistic, tolerant, non-judgmental, caring and sensitive manner, ensuring that the rights, beliefs and wishes of different individuals or groups are not compromised

2. Educate, support and encourage the health, wellness and comfort of groups and individuals, in order to effectively respond to their needs during health or illness experiences, facilitating effective communication with patients, families and social groups..

7. Practice health and safety principles, including patient mobilization and handling, infection control, basic first aid and emergency procedures. Safely administer drugs and other therapies.

4. Academic activities

• Theoretical classes: 1.8 ECTS (45 h.) Expository and explanatory sessions of contents. These classes will include discussion sessions. The relevant and novel aspects of the different pathologies will be presented , focusing on pathophysiology, physical assessment, diagnostic tests, combined treatment and special procedures, nursing diagnoses as well as the planning and evaluation of patient-specific nursing interventions.
• Seminars: 0.6 ECTS (15 h.) Special clinical situations and case resolution. Analysis of bibliography related to the seminars. The seminars will be on renal replacement therapy

(hemofiltration, peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis and renal transplantation), nursing approach in the diabetic foot, punctures (FNA and BAG), bone marrow transplantation and nursing approach in mucositis and on the bedridden patient and use of the subcutaneous route for symptom control.

• Guided study: the ability to carry out a revision work is worked on with the students distributed into small groups The key aspects of what is a review are presented and the review is started.
• Group work: Seminar preparation, data analysis, information search and complementary readings are included.
• Tutoring/evaluation: Direct attention to students. Identification of learning problems. Guidance on the subject. Both the skills learned and the attitudes that have been detected are evaluated , as well as the deficiencies in the rest of the training activities.

The subject has both a theoretical and applied orientation, therefore the planned activities are focused on the acquisition of a series of knowledge and its use in the resolution of practical cases related to clinical and therapeutic aspects of care of different pathologies.

In its research aspect, a systematic review is studied and done on the syllabus of the subject as a field work.

5. Assessment system

The student must demonstrate that they have  achieved the expected learning results by means of the assessment activities.

Assessment activities:

- Written exam on theoretical program contents.......60% 
- Written exam of seminar contents........................20% 
- Field work ........................................................20%
Global assessment: To pass the subject it is necessary that the student obtains at least a passing grade in in each of the sections that compose it.

-Written examination of the theoretical part of the program. Individual test. It represents 60% of the final grade.
Objective test consisting of a written exam of 6 short questions and 10 test questions with only one correct answer, related to the theoretical contents of the thematic units
This is an eliminatory exam, for which a minimum of 3 points out of 6, that is, 50% of the exam, must be obtained.
The date will be announced in due course.
The final written examination will be held on the official dates. In order to facilitate the exams, this exam will be held together with the seminar contents exam and the part passed will be saved for the next official exam, which will have the same format and grading characteristics as the first one, . Students who have not shown up or have not passed any of the parts (theoretical content or seminars) of the first call must do so in the second official call.

-Written examination of seminar content, problems and cases. It represents 20% of the final grade.
The written exam on the content of the seminars will consist of a variable number of multiple-choice questions (between 10 and 20) with only one correct answer
To take this test the student must have attended the seminars.
The midterm exam is eliminatory, for which a minimum of 1 point out of 2 must be obtained, that is to say, 50% of the exam.
In order to facilitate the calls, the exam will be carried out together with the theoretical content exam.
Attendance and participation in the seminars is mandatory. Only one seminar can be missed, after two absences a theoretical-practical exam on the contents of the seminars missed must be passed.

-Theoretical-practical exam: In this test the student must demonstrate that he/she has achieved the learning results required in each and every seminar that they has not attended. It must be passed in order to be able to sit for the final exam on seminars in the official call

-Field work. It accounts for 20%.
The completion of the work is compulsory, the minimum grade required is 1 point, i.e. 50%, and the maximum grade is 2 points
Assessment criteria: The sources of information, the updating of the topic, the capacity of synthesis, the clarity in the exposition and the presentation of the written work to be included in Moodle will be taken into account.
In all cases, the papers must follow the structure and order agreed upon in the tutorials with the teacher, according to the chosen topic

In the evaluation of activities, the characteristics of the center where the degree is taught will be taken into account for Huesca and Teruel, always ensuring the acquisition of the competences.
